Disqualifier Criteria for Firefighter and First Responder Candidates
The following will result in the immediate rejection of firefighter applicants:
- Felony Conviction, (including pardons) as an adult.
- Felony Convictions, (including pardons) as a juvenile if within the last 5 years of hire.
- Felony and Gross Misdemeanor Drug Convictions.
- Criminal Sexual Conduct Convictions.
- Gross Misdemeanor Conviction in the last 5 years.
- Conviction of Assaulting or Eluding a Police Officer or public official
- Evidence that the applicant has misrepresented or falsified any information to the department via application, interview, and correspondence.
The following may result in the rejection of the applicant:
- Having or using a website as to represent or release information that may conflict with department policy and/ or privacy acts.
- DUI, Implied Consent, or B.A.C. over .08, on the driving record in the last 3 years
- Misdemeanor conviction (including traffic convictions, DAR, DAS and DAC) within the last 5 years.
- Dismissal from a fire agency or negotiated resignation in lieu of termination.
- An undesirable discharge from the military or an honorable discharge which indicates the applicant is not eligible for re-enlistment.
- More than two (2) "At fault" motor vehicle accidents in the past five (5) years
- Documented instances of misconduct by prior employers
- Documented instances of undesirable work habits
- Documented pattern of unfitness or patterns of misconduct
- Documented history of behavior which indicates that the applicant will not succeed as a Centennial Firefighter.
- Insufficient references or unsatisfactory references or unsatisfactory personal qualifications.
- A non-referral from the employee evaluation conducted by a third party Psychologist.
** All applicants considered for rejection will be reviewed by the Fire Chief.
