City Ordinances

Morton, MN City Ordinances

The State of Minnesota has a set of ordinances that everyone must follow. Counties can then decide that there are additional ordinances necessary for cities within the county lines to follow in addition to the state requirements. As the City of Morton, we take these two sets of ordinances into consideration when considering further restrictions within city limits to ensure an optimal environment for those to live, work and play here.

What is a city ordinance?
City ordinances are the general rules that the city follows. The state supplies the Minnesota Basic Code which is consistent throughout the state. Then each individual city can tweak them as needed for their population and needs.
How does Morton handle city ordinances?

If someone is not following the city ordinance, it is upon the sheriff’s office to take care of it. If you see something, we ask that you call the sheriff’s department.
